LAUNCESTON HASH HOUSE HARRIERS
28/2/1978
The Hash House Harriers were established in Kuala
Lumpur in 1938. It is a fun running club with no Competition and a lot
of social life. It is world wide with clubs from Geeveston (TAS) to Moscow
(RUSSIA). Basically running or walking the same route all the time is a bore.
The runs are set by chalk arrows which you follow,
you will find other symbols or small messages on your travels. Whilst following
the trail you should call to inform the slower runners you are on the right
trail. These are all designed to keep the average social jogger in touch
with the Marathon runner or sprinter. There is no First
this word is five letters and is far worse than a four letter word in this
type of fun running. Running in the Winter is kept to the streets usually,
some ones home or a nice quiet pub. Summer we move out into the bush some
of these runs become nature walks or bashes. All the runs start and finish
at the same point where the ON ON
is to take place.
THE ON ON is were the
social life starts, ...In the men's only club if you can dish it out but
can't take it, don't bother Cumming. Or stay out of the shit stir's way
like the Quiet members do. There are just a few rules here :ONE no poofters
and no fighting this includes dogs. From this point the beer trailer is
opened and the Jimmy BOAGS flows FREEly after you have paid your nightly
cover charge (ranging from $3 to $12). There is a BBQ which you can throw
some shrimps or what ever you wish to bring to eat (once there was SNAKE
for all). During the Hash Circle you will hear about how smart the human
race is. If you think ON THE SPOT in the local rag had some good stories
you should here some of these. If you are mentioned in one of these stories
you are given a free beer whilst the rest of the club join in with a sing
song. Down Down Down Down Down.
